During this time of year, we'd be likely to include a post about drunk driving this holiday season. In Florida and throughout the rest of the country, DUI task forces are on a mission to arrest as many people for suspicion of drunk driving as possible.
But a new study of DUI arrests throughout the U.S. provides even more reason for Jacksonville drivers specifically to be more careful this holiday season. According to research, Jacksonville is on the top-five list of U.S. cities with the highest rate of DUI arrests based on population.
Insurance.com compiled the numbers and found that the following is a list of the cities with the most DUI arrests:
1. San Diego
2. Los Angeles
3. Indianapolis
4. Jacksonville
5. San Francisco
Based on numbers from the U.S. Census and the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, more than 3,700 drunk driving citations were issued in Jacksonville last year. And with 2011 nearing its end soon, all drivers should realize that this means law enforcement efforts to charge people with DUIs will be stepped up.
There is too much to enjoy during this time of year. Many of us have time off, family in town, food to share and laughs to get out. It's natural for the holiday festivities to be paired with alcoholic drinks, but just keep in mind that a night of joy can quickly turn to a night of anxiety.
It takes just one apparent traffic error for an officer to have reason to stop you, and then he will likely turn the stop into a DUI investigation. It is never too soon to rely on the advice and experience of a DUI defense attorney in your area to give you confidence in your rights when faced with a DUI arrest.
